FERNANDO TORRES is demanding a six-year deal worth £31.2million to join Liverpool. The Atletico Madrid star, 23, is yet to hold talks with Kop boss Rafa Benitez as his advisors hold out for £100,000-a-week.
The astonishing package for the striker will amount to £57.9m, including the £24m transfer fee. Atletico want Liverpool to pick up a £2.7m tab for a pay-off Torres is due under the terms of his contract.
The deal will stretch Liverpool’s purse strings to the limit and would put Torres’ wage behind only skipper Steven Gerrard’s £120,000-a-week. But Benitez risks losing his No1 summer target to Inter Milan if his board baulk at the demands.
The Italian giants have had a £27m bid accepted for the Spain ace. And although Torres favours Liverpool, the Inter offer is being used as a bargaining tool by his agents Bahia International. A Bahia source said: “He’ll only leave Atletico if the club, and the offer, is absolutely right for him.”
The deal was given a boost at the weekend when midfielder Luis Garcia sealed a £3.36m move in the other direction. Officially the switch has nothing to do with Torres’ deal but the fee has been taken off his price-tag.
Torres will keep Benitez waiting until he returns from holiday on July 7 before any deal is signed. Atletico chiefs are now desperate to finalise the move after signing Diego Forlan as a £14m replacement from Villarreal. -

If this deal goes through, he will be guaranteed £100,000-a-week until he is 29 yrs old even if he plays like crap... Quite a big risk Pool is taking on him... Because if he dosen't perform he will still know that he is guaranteed the $100, 000 per week pay... And what will the other Pool players who has been there longer be thinking? Players like Carragher, Crouch, Kuyt will all not be happy like what we see happening at Chelsea now...
I feel sometimes paying a higher transfer fee is better than paying a higher salary cos paying a higher salary may create a unhappy feeling among the other players... especially when that player has not done anything for that club yet... -

The Sun report that the striker has asked for a bumper £100,000 a week salary, and a six year contract, which totals to £31.2million.
It is worth noting that Liverpool had decided to dish out his transfer fee - which is much lower than this - only after much deliberation.
Though this amount will be amortized over six seasons, it is a contract that supposedly only five Premiership players - Shevchenko, Ballack, Gerrard, and Ronaldo and Henry - have ever topped.
With even Chelsea deciding that Frank Lampard and skipper John Terry will not be offered £100,000 a week or over, it would be an understatement to say that Torres' demand has stunned Liverpool.
There seems to be an offer from Inter Milan that has caused the problems. The report insists that Torres' agents, Bahia International, are keen to use the Nerazzurri's offer to land him a bumper contract.
Sources from the agency have been quoted as saying: "HeÂ’ll only leave Atletico if the club, and the offer, is absolutely right for him."
It is unclear whether Liverpool will meet this demand. They will want to baulk at it, but will know that losing the player over wage demands after all the hard work they have put in, will be a very sorry situation to be in. -
sign him at that amt of wage then by the end of next season you will see carrager and gerrard refusing to renew their contracts unless they are paid more than him
but seriously he is demanding for too much. dont even have champions league exposure and experience. pool already 3 strikers and if the 4th is gonna cost the same as the other 3 put together, then forget it. maybe pool can offer goal bonus or something similar. but if he could be as marketable as becks off the pitch, then pool should consider -
well, rem, this is RB's test for the owners to show their monetary support.
If they don't support, they may even lose RB.
But if they do, they may have to review all contracts sooner or later.

Nando did not arrive at Anfield with a big demand for salary.
His situation is that he need one more season as he was plagued with injury problem.
However, he was chopped ruthlessly by Ah Ben without his knowledge.
As for Cisse, he was never given a full season with Liverpool as he was injured or out on loan due to injury.
So, he was never given any real chance to show since ah ben seem to be biased against him for not following his instructions.
Cisse did score the critical goal for key cup matches.
Therefore, he is not a flop as compared to Diouf and Diao.
As for Torres, he better make sure he do his job for demanding the high pay.
The Anfield crowd and the Kop Press will not be so nice to him if he turn up to be a flop after his first season.
He better do his sum about the EPL before he blow the trumpets or else he will be in for a big surprise.
If he flop, ah ben and this torres guy can roll their carpet and go back spain to eat their old rice.
I will be watching him closely if the deal goes through cos he comes with the price of the departure of the thumb sucker. -

Holly crap. I seriously think Liverpool should re-consider. He's definitely not worth that kind of money. Unproven, new to the league and new to the country. Simply not worth it to take this huge gamble.
I think Luis Garcia is worth keeping - more than signing Torres.
