Spurs are set to offer Jermain Defoe a new contract despite interest in him from Portsmouth, Manchester United and West Ham.
The striker appeared to be on his way from White Hart Lane after Martin Jol splashed out £16million to land Darren Bent from Charlton last week but it would now seem that the boss wants Defoe to stay on.
Defoe will have to battle with Bent, Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov and Mido for a first-team place and Jol is keen to keep intact arguably the strongest strikeforce in the Premiership.
The England international has two more years left on his Spurs contract and will have talks with the club this week to find out exactly what the future holds for him.
The club are set to offer him a five-year deal but he will be offloaded for around £10million if he decides to turn it down and move on in search of guaranteed first-team football.
