This question came into mind after seeing how RM won their 1st title in four years. Of course i'm no RM hater and credit to them for showing that fighting spirit all the way until the end, claiming back their title in an exciting fashion, right down to the wire.
But throughout the season, their season has been dogged by patches of inconsistency. Although that will certainly kill off any title chasing team in EPL and Serie A(Prior to the match fixing scandal of course), Real still managed to bring back the La Liga title. This is also mainly due to the fact that the rest of the title chasing teams have dropped numerous points as well. Could it be more of a case like Real won the title not so much as they were good, but more of that simply because the other title challengers are much worse off than them?
76 points is all they garnered for RM's title winning season.
In contrast Roma got 75 in 2nd place and Inter unsurprisingly won their Scudetto with 97 points. This meant that they still can win most of their games convincingly.
Man Utd need 89 points to reclaim their EPL title, while Chelsea in 2nd place have got 83.
So is it a case of the top La Liga teams' quality declining, or is their league just too difficult to win most of their games convincingly?
well you could also say that maybe not their standards no good but that the standard of the whole league is closer so you don't have a few dominant sides that can get all the points.
