Sven Goran Eriksson has been confirmed as Manchester City's new manager.
The Swede has agreed a three-year deal at Eastlands to succeed Stuart Pearce as manager.
Former Thailand Premier Thaksin Shinawatra has gained the 75 per cent shareholding he required to gain control of the club and he has moved to appoint Eriksson as City's new manager.
The 59-year-old has been out of football since standing down from the England job after last year's World Cup finals.
Eriksson has spent the last few days at City's training ground meeting the players as he begins his plans for rebuilding the squad.
The former Lazio boss was delighted to land the City job.
"I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been asked to be Manchester City's manager," Eriksson told the club's official website.
"This is an exciting challenge and I have already started making preparations for the new season. I want to deliver a team that our fantastic fans can be proud of."
Club chief executive Alistair Mackintosh also spoke of his delight at appointing Eriksson.
"I'm delighted that Sven-Goran Eriksson has agreed to join the club as we move into an exciting new era," beamed Mackintosh.
"Sven's vast experience of managing top clubs to success around Europe is one of the qualities that attracted us to him.
"He also knows the English Premier League inside out during his time as national team manager."
