CHELSEA face a fight with Real Madrid for Dutch ace Royston Drenthe.
The Spanish giants have entered the race for the left midfielder, who was reported to be the subject of a £4.7million bid from the Blues.
Chelsea wanted to buy Drenthe, 20, from Feyenoord this summer before loaning him back to the Dutch club for next season.
Drenthe starred for Holland in last month's European Under-21 Championship.
But new Real coach Bernd Schuster has now stepped up his bid to bring the player to the Bernabeu alongside fellow new signings Pepe and Christoph Metzelder.
Should Chelsea succeed in their bid for Drenthe, it could pave the way for Dutch winger Arjen Robben to join Real.
Meanwhile, Argentina striker Javier Saviola, 25, is poised to join Real Madrid on a free from arch rivals Barcelona.
