Bayern Munich keeper Oliver Kahn has confirmed that this will be his last season. The 38 year old has revealed that he would only reconsider if his successor Michael Rensing were to be seriously injured. His future lies in Asia where he will undertake development work.
“Next year I will be 39 and it will be time to take the shorts off. After that I have a few things planned in Asia.”
Kahn chose Asia as his retirement destination during the 2002 World Cup.
“I have often visited those countries and have many friends in China, Japan and Korea. I like the mentality of the people. My work there will take a few years” he revealed.
Michael Rensing has long been waiting in the wings to take over from the Bayern legend.
“For me personally it is absolutely clear that this is my last season.” He has ruled out playing for another club.
However the goalkeeper still has targets for his last campaign. “It is fun playing for Bayern when we are number one. Therefore we are going to have lots of fun this season.
“The team has the chance the win everything, that is my goal. If you’ve played 13 or 14 years like me, then you don’t want to end your career with a season like last year.”
Oliver Kahn joined Bayern in the summer of 1994 from Karlsruhe. He has made 528 appearances for the club and has made 128 Champions League starts. He has 88 caps for Germany.
