Glen Johnson has told Jose Mourinho to forget about signing Daniel Alves because he can fill Chelsea's problem right-back position.
Blues boss Mourinho has struggled to find a reliable player for the right-hand side of his back four and has been linked with Brazil international Alves who caught the eye last season with UEFA Cup winners Sevilla.
However, Johnson, who spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, insists he is the man to fill the void.
He said: "This is my fifth year at Chelsea and while I would prefer things to have been different, because every player wants to play week in, week out, in reality it does not always happen like that.
"It has been tough but we will get there in the end. I feel better now coming back to Chelsea after a long season with Portsmouth."
"Nobody nailed down the position last year so everybody has a chance. The position seems wide open."
Meanwhile, Chelsea new boy Florent Malouda wants the Blues to reclaim the Premiership title in style next season by playing "good football".
"I prefer to win to win but if we could practice good football and score many goals it would be better."
