David Villa is delighted that Valencia have turned down offers for him and is determined to repay their faith by helping the club move forward.
The 25-year-old striker was the subject of interest from Chelsea and Liverpool earlier in the summer and was reported to be in talks over a new contract.
Now he has performed a U-turn and wants to stay at Mestalla after the club proved how much they want him.
"It is flattering that there is interest and offers from other clubs," Villa said from the club's pre-season training camp in Holland. "But it is more flattering that the club has turned down those offers and showed that they really want me.
"I enjoy playing here and my only aim is to stay and help the team improve.
"Everyone here wants to make things better and the best way for that to happen is to keep the players we have."
Valencia have splashed out on reinforcing their squad since the end of the season and brought in players such as Javier Arizmendi, Alexis, Juan Mata and Stephen Sunday.
"This year we have strengthened by bringing in players that last year could not play due to the number of signings," Villa continued. "Competition for places is good for everyone.
"If somebody comes in and does well then that is great, but we have signed young players who are hungry and have great quality and desire too.
"Now we all have to help them settle in and adapt as quickly as possible."
