West Ham are reportedly preparing a club record offer to Bolton for much-travelled French striker Nicolas Anelka.
West Ham are not the first club to be linked with Anelka this summer and it has been admitted by the Trotters that they will not stand in the way of Anelka if they receive a suitable offer from a Champions League side, which is something West Ham most certainly are not.
However, an offer that large for the 28-year-old, who cost them £8m when he signed from Fenerbahce a year ago, may be too big to turn down, especially if the man dubbed 'Le Sulk' is getting into another of his moods.
In a controversial career the moody striker has moved from Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, Liverpool and Manchester City before his move to Turkey, but there seems plenty of transfer activity in him yet.
West Ham have tried and failed to sign Darren Bent, Djibril Cisse and Andy Johnson this summer, while they will almost certainly not have the pleasure of Carlos Tevez wearing their shirt next season.
Marlon Harewood has flown the nest, but Craig Bellamy has been signed from Liverpool and Dean Ashton is back from his injury nightmare, so another big name striker signing was not expected, but with money burning a hole in West Ham's pocket nothing should come as a surprise.
