Sunderland have completed the signing of Paul McShane from West Brom.Roy Keane confirmed early on Thursday that the two clubs were in talks, and a deal has now been reached for an initial fee of £1.5million.
That figure could rise to £2.5million, depending on appearances and whether Sunderland can survive in the Premier League.
Keane has been looking to strengthen his defensive options this summer and turned his focus to McShane after being frustrated in his attempts to sign Leighton Baines from Wigan.
The Black Cats manager is familiar with his fellow Irishman's abilities from their time together at Manchester United.
McShane joined West Brom from United 12 months ago and was a key player for The Baggies in their ultimately unsuccessful bid for promotion.
He becomes Keane's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Greg Halford, Russell Anderson, Michael Chopra, Kieran Richardson and Dickson Etuhu at The Stadium of Light.
