Sunderland have stolen in on Fulham's bid to land Cork City striker Roy O'Donovan.
Fulham had previously claimed O'Donovan is to have a medical at Craven Cottage on Monday, after having had a bid accepted, but Sunderland believe they could yet land the coveted front-man.
Black Cats boss Roy Keane had long been thought to be an admirer of the highly-rated striker, but it was Premier League rivals Fulham that stole a march on other suitors.
However, Keane has now confirmed that Sunderland have lodged a firm offer for the player's services.
"We have made an offer for O'Donovan," said Keane, at a press conference at Turner's Cross.
"We are aware that the player had planned to travel to London to speak with Fulham and undergo a medical tomorrow but nothing has been signed yet. We hope we are not too late."
