ARJEN ROBBEN has been told to sign a new Chelsea contract this week — or he will be sold to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants had a new £20million offer for Robben rejected over the weekend. But Chelsea will open transfer talks if Robben does not prove his commitment by signing a new deal. The Dutch winger, 23, has been offered a four-year contract worth £90,000-a-week — despite having two years left on his current deal. And Robben has so far resisted all of Chelsea’s efforts to pin him down. Now the club have run out of patience and want the matter sorted before next Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho has insisted all summer that Robben is not for sale and Real are wasting their time. But he does not want to keep the star unless he is fully committed to bringing the Premier League title back to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will still demand £25m for Robben — which would represent a healthy profit on the £12m they paid PSV Eindhoven just before Mourinho took charge three years ago.
