RUUD GULLIT believes the influx of foreign stars to the Premier League has damaged English football.
Gullit was one of the first big names to move to England when Glenn Hoddle signed him for Chelsea in 1995.
The Dutchman was a big hit at Stamford Bridge and his arrival paved the way for the likes of Gianluca Vialli and Gianfranco Zola to follow him from Italy's Serie A.
But Gullit claims too many cheap imports have damaged England's national team with homegrown talent regularly overlooked.
And he believes the time is right for Premier League bosses to give English youngsters a chance.
Gullit said: "Ten years ago they understood that something was going wrong in England and they had to change something.
"That is why they were buying all these new stars. With the new stars, the change began.
"The only thing is now there are too many foreigners in England and I think they have overdone it.
"Steve McClaren's national team now has problems because of that."
