Spanish ace Javi Garrido has joined Manchester City for £1.5million. The Real Sociedad defender penned a four-year deal at The City of Manchester Stadium to become the fifth summer signing for new boss Sven-Goran Eriksson. City had agreed a deal with Sociedad earlier this week and he signed a contract after passing a medical on Thursday morning.Real boss Chris Coleman was loath to let Garrido go as he rates him very highly, but he admitted he could not stand in the player's way. The 22-year-old has admitted that the chance to play in England was too good an opportunity to turn down. "A chance to play in the Premier League does not come every day and it is very difficult to reject," Garrido told the Spanish press.
Eriksson, with the backing of chairman Thaksin Shinawatra, is working at a fierce pace in the transfer market with the start of the season only nine days away. The former England coach still has more business to do in that respect as well.
Striker Valeri Bojinov has claimed he is moving from Fiorentina to join fellow Bulgarian Martin Petrov at Eastlands. There is also speculation that defender Vedran Corluka and midfielder Elano are about to come on board from Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk. Eriksson would only say, however: "Something has to happen soon as the league is about to start."
