Blackburn's McCarthy on mend after head injury
South Africa striker Benni McCarthy appears to be on the mend after being rushed to hospital following a blow to the head during Blackburn Rovers's 2-1 win at Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Saturday.
McCarthy received the blow in the second half and needed five minutes of treatment before being carried off on a stretcher with his neck in a brace. "There was concern when he went off, I think everybody saw that after the initial impact he was able to walk away, but then he passed out I think," manager Mark Hughes told the club's official Web site -

The dismissal of substitute Dave Kitson, whose appearance was one of the briefest in Premier League history. Kitson had only been on the pitch for 37 seconds before was sent off by referee Rob Styles for a lunge at Patrice Evra.
'I have looked at it again and his foot probably was a little bit high,' said Reading boss Steve Coppell. 'The difference between a malicious, red-card challenge and a very good challenge is a milli-second. 'Possibly he deserved to be sent off but Dave is not a dangerous player.'
