Portsmouth will reportedly offer Matt Taylor to Bolton as part of their attempts to bring in £10million-rated striker Nicolas Anelka.
Fratton Park boss Harry Redknapp has brought in John Utaka and David Nugent during the summer to bolster his attacking options but has made no secret of his desire to land a proven top-class goalscorer.
Utaka and Nugent have started both of Pompey's opening two Premiership fixtures but do not have the top-flight experience that Anelka would offer.
West Ham are also keen on the former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal star and hope to offer Bolton £10million and Anelka terms of around £90,000 a week.
But Redknapp believes he can swing the deal in his favour and is ready to throw midfielder Taylor into the equation as a makeweight.
Bolton will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the 28-year-old France international and have already denied reaching an agreement with West Ham over a proposed to switch to east London.
