Aston Villa are set to make a fresh bid for Jermain Defoe.
The England striker has told Tottenham he will not sign a new contract at the club after Martin Jol gave the striker just 15 minutes as a substitute in the 4-0 victory over Derby.
Defoe has seen precious little action this season, making three substitute appearances which have amounted to just 56 minutes in the Premier League so far.
And Villa boss Martin O'Neill remains adamant he will bring in the players.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "We will have the players in - that's the point. We do not want to be left short.
"I am trying to look for as much quality as I possibly can for the future of the football club."
