Roman's dream scheme: Get me Ronaldinho, the best player in the world... by Friday!
Roman Abramovich has held two meetings with Ronaldinho's brother and adviser, the second in London this weekend, in the hope of bringing the Barcelona superstar to Chelsea.
In the most audacious transfer business of his Chelsea tenure, the Russian billionaire spent the weekend entertaining Roberto de Assis Moreira, flying him in on his private jet and putting him up at the exclusive Lanesborough Hotel in Mayfair.
Abramovich held the second meeting with Moreira at his Knightsbridge house on Saturday morning and is understood to have put an offer to him that would make the Brazil star the highest paid player in Europe.
Sources at Chelsea last night insisted that the first approach came from Ronaldinho's camp and it is unclear what exact figures have been discussed. It will, however, dwarf the £130,000-a-week deal recently agreed with captain John Terry.
Luring Ronaldinho from the Nou Camp is not going to be easy, and not just because the summer transfer window closes this Friday. There is the buy-out clause in the contract Ronaldinho signed at Barcelona in September 2005 which runs until 2010. It is a staggering £85million. But Abramovich is desperate to see his Chelsea side play with more flair and adventure, not least after seeing them stutter to a 1-0 win against Portsmouth on Saturday, and would consider it money well spent for the 27-year-old, who has twice been named World Player of the Year.
Stamford Bridge officials have also been encouraged by Ronaldinho's stuttering performance as part of a three-pronged attack in Barca's La Liga opener against Racing Santander, which they drew 0-0. Evidence is mounting that the talented attacking quartet of Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o, Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi is becoming increasingly difficult for Nou Camp boss Frank Rijkaard to juggle.
Sportsmail understands that Moreira flew back to Spain last night to speak to his brother following the fixture in Santander and discuss the meeting he had with Abramovich. -

He's too expensive, lack consistency in form and of course, there is the doubt whether he will be able to adapt to EPL.

Barcelona sport director Txiki Berguiristain has dismissed reports linking Ronaldinho with a move to Chelsea.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea have made an approach for the Brazilian superstar after Ronaldinho's brother and agent, Roberto de Assis was rumoured to have held talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Barcelona have moved quickly to dispel the rumours and Berguiristain insists the classy forward is staying at Camp Nou.
Staying put
"We do not want to sell him," Berguiristain told Catalunya Radio. "Ronaldinho is our player and I am totally convinced that he will remain at the club.
"In this aspect the decision of Barcelona is clear."
Berguiristain is not surprised that the Brazilian international is being chased by other clubs, but is adamant that the player is going nowhere as he still has three years to run on his current contract.

"It is normal that any of the big clubs in the world desires Ronaldinho, but he has signed a deal with us," added Berguiristain.
Begiristain brushed off worries about Ronaldinho's brother and agent, Roberto de Assis reportedly holding talks with Chelsea in London, saying: "This is a subject that does not interest me." -

i think it might be good might be bad.. if you have the players of cux u can try more attacking style, imagine ur rafa benitez or morinho and u now have ronaldhino or kaka or whichever very skillful player at ur disposal, of cux u can try new tactic le.. however i tink rafa isnt doing a v good job cux even when they got torres, their football is still so dead n boring ( long balls ! )

Roman Abramovich is prepared to make Ronaldinho the Premier League's first £200,000-a-week player in a bid to lure him from Barcelona to Chelsea. As Sportsmail revealed on Monday, Chelsea's Russian owner has already held two meetings with the Brazilian's brother, Roberto de Assis Moreira, after he approached the club.
Encouraged by those meetings, Abramovich is now ready to authorise a deal worth a staggering £100million for a player who would add flair to an already formidable Chelsea team.
Half that money would go to Ronaldinho in wages over the next five years and the other half would go directly to Barcelona as a British record £50m transfer fee for the 27-year-old double World Player of the Year.
Ronaldinho has an £85m buy-out clause in his contract but the full amount applies only to Spanish clubs and is essentially designed to prevent him from ever following Luis Figo to Real Madrid.
Barcelona's sporting director, Txiki Beguiristain, told Sportsmail on Monday that Ronaldinho was not for sale. 'Any big European club would want Ronaldinho but he is ours and there is no chance of him leaving,' he said.
'Honestly, not even Chelsea have the kind of money that can match the value we put on Ronaldinho. He is the symbol of the club and it is therefore impossible to sell him.
'It would be sporting suicide to do it now. To help a big Champions League rival like Chelsea would be total madness. If the agent has travelled to London that is not important to me.'
