Marca claims that the Anfield club is prepared to pay 20 million euros for the attacking midfielder, 4.5 million of which would go to Baptista's former club Sevilla, due to a contractual clause.
The Spanish paper goes on to claim that Madrid, while not going quite so far as to declare Baptista unwanted, are keen to go ahead with the transfer, so as to provide some extra funds in the war chest, should they make another approach for Daniel Alves.
Baptista is thought to be happy at Real Madrid - as long as he is not formally told that there is no room for him in coach Schuster's plans. During the summer he received a recall to the squad, putting paid to that idea for now - but he's barely featured since then.
