  Aston Villa are reported to have failed with a late bid to sign Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano before the window closed.
  
  Martin O'Neill was working hard to bring the former AS Roma star to Villa before the transfer deadline and according to reports he offered the player a £3million-a-year deal to move to Villa Park.
  
  However, the player turned down the double-your-money deal in favour of returning to his homeland with Sampdoria, who he has joined on a season-long loan deal.

  Cassano is a talent, no doubt about that, but many problems arosed whenever he goes. Ill-disciplined, lazy and scandal-proned.
