Newspaper La Vanguardia claims that Barcelona defender Oleguer Presas has been accused by a judge in his hometown of Sabadell of attacking a policeman. He could face up to three years in jail in a worst-case scenario...
Barcelona stopper Oleguer has been named by a Spanish judge in Sabadell as one of at least eleven people involved in a brawl with police in 2003.
The incident allegedly took place when police came to close a bar, Bemba, early on 27th September 2003. Some of the bar patrons were said to have attacked police on the scene.
Some of the customers were said to have thrown stones at the police, seven of whom sustained injuries in the incident. Apparently, the force responded with rubber bullets.
Whether Oleguer was directly involved or not is unknown, but he is said to have "resisted legitimate authority."
Oleguer has yet to comment on the incident, but Barcelona president Joan Laporta has. He insists that the club will "support [Oleguer], to support him through this to see if the question has been solved."
Laporta then added, though, that perhaps "this could have been solved before."
Oleguer, an outspoken figure, has been with Barcelona B since 2001, making his first team debut the following year.
An economics graduate, the player is seen as strongly pro-Catalan.
