Sven Goran Eriksson has already spent over £40million of Thaksin Shinawatra’s money since replacing Stuart Pearce at Eastlands, yet the Swede will again make a splash in the transfer window in the New Year.
It is believed that Eriksson wants to sign AC Milan striker Alberto Gilardino in a £17million move and link him up with fellow Italian Rolando Bianchi, although the former Parma man insists he is staying at the San Siro.
"Yesterday, I spoke with president Silvio Berlusconi and (vice-president) Mr (Adriano) Galliani. Both have reassured me that my future is at Milan, so I can be calm,” said Gilardino.
