According to reports from the Argentine press Real Madrid are after talented River Plate midfielder Augusto Fernandez.
Scouts from the Spanish champions travelled to Buenos Aires to watch the youngster in action, against Estudiantes de La Plata and Racing Club, and were impressed by his performances.
“I didn’t know anything about it. The truth is, it wasn’t something I expected,” Fernandez said to reporters after being told about Real Madrid's interest.
Fernandez, who has made 37 appearances for the River Plate first team, is known for his trademark explosive runs down the right wing, but isnÂ’t much of a goal scorer, after having only scored twice in his career.
“I take this like a further motivation. Their interest proves I am doing things well,” he said.
The midfielder is keen on a move to Madrid, but first wants to win a title with River Plate.
“I want to win the championship with River. I always dreamt about playing in the first division, and to win a title. I don’t want to leave before winning the title,” he declared.
Last year the youngster attracted interest from Real MadridÂ’s archrivals Barcelona, but chances are he will become a Madrid player when the transfer window reopens.
