
Tottenham right back Pascal Chimbonda was last night named as the footballer arrested as part of an investigation into corruption in the game.
Chimbonda was reportedly taken into custody on Monday on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.
He was bailed until October.
The football investigative team from teh City of London police carried out the questioning. The unit is said to wanted to keep Chimbonda's arrest private.
Both Spurs and Chimbonda's previous club. Wigan, have refused to comment on the matter.
It is expected detectives will move quickly to make further high-profile arrests.
Chimbonda's agent, Willie McKay, reportedly said 'I had a call from Pascal this morning and he told me he'd answered some police questions but its nothing.'
A report by Lord Stevens last June detailed 17 transfers which his team expressed doubts over.
