Martin Jol has told Jermain Defoe: Sign a new deal or I will let you rot in the reserves.
The pair have been at loggerheads for weeks over the England strikerÂ’s refusal to commit himself to Tottenham until 2012.
That anger boiled over into an explosive Jol tirade on Friday, with Defoe then axed for the 3-1 derby defeat by Arsenal at White Hart Lane.
A Spurs insider said boss Jol screamed at Defoe: “I will never sell you to any top-four club. You can rot in the reserves if that’s what it takes.
"But I’m never going to let you leave here just because you want to go to another big club.”
Defoe just stood looking totally stunned as Jol unleashed his ferocious, one-way verbal assault.
The former West Ham star, 24, still has two years left to run on his current contract. But he has not started a single Spurs match this season, with all five of his appearances coming as a sub.
The bust-up will further crank up the pressure on under-fire Jol.
The Dutchman has already been warned he faces the sack if he does not get Tottenham into the top four this season. And chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly drawn up a shortlist to replace him.
Seville’s Juande Ramos claimed last month Spurs made him a ‘dizzying’ offer to take over.
But the Londoners last night denied reports they have met with old boy Jurgen Klinsmann in Los Angeles.
