Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster recently admitted that his side made preliminary moves to sign Werder Bremen's Diego this summer, revealing the approach just days before the sides squared off in the Champions League.
Madrid emerged 2-1 victors, but Diego was to impress for the visitors, fuelling the fires of transfer speculation even further.
Now, the Brazilian has himself contributed, saying that it would be a 'dream' to move to the Merengues - at least according to his agent and father, Djair Ribas de Cunha.
"Nobody from Real Madrid has spoken with me personally," he admitted, but added, "I know that Schuster likes him as a player, which is excellent.
"That's important for Diego. But he's under contract with Werder Bremen and if Madrid wishes to sign him, they must find an agreement with Werder. I don't think that's impossible. I think an agreement can be reached.
"To Diego it would be very exciting to play for Real Madrid. He's happy in Germany, but Real Madrid is the best team in the world.
"It would be a dream.
"But everything will depend on Real Madrid's proposal."
Diego signed for Werder last summer from Porto, who acquired him from Santos, his former youth club. He has 24 caps for Brazil.
