Reading manager Steve Coppell has admitted he would be keen to take Steve Sidwell back to the Madejski Stadium.
The midfielder joined Chelsea in the summer after leaving the Royals on a free transfer.
However Sidwell has struggled to secure first-team football with Chelsea and following Reading's unimpressive start to the season, Coppell has revealed he would consider an attempt to lure the 24-year-old back.
Following the recent departure of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and the appointment of Avram Grant as his successor, a number of players could face uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge and Coppell has revealed an interest in Sidwell.
"I would fully anticipate that we will supplement the squad in January, definitely," Coppell told the Daily Star.
"I want good players and Siddy is a good player. He is one of many I would love to bring here."
Coppell, though, insists he does not feel any sympathy for Sidwell after his failure to make an impact at Chelsea.
"Do I feel sorry for him? No, not at all," Coppell added.
"It's ironic that he is not getting a game there when we very much wanted him to have a game here, but que sera sera."
