Manchester City are preparing a sensational £6million move for Argentinian World Cup star Juan Riquelme.
City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has identified the brilliant South American playmaker as his top target, and agent Jerome Anderson is working on a transfer window deal for the Atletico Madrid star.
Eriksson is a long-standing admirer of Riquelme, 29, who has played for for Boca Juniors, Barcelona and Villareal and has 41 caps.
The attacking midfielder joined Villa real from Barcelona in 2003 and his influence helped the unfashionable Spanish side to three years of success in La Liga and the Champions League as he scored 35 goals in 105 games.
But after things turned sour at Villareal last year Riquelme went back to Boca Juiniors on loan. He was the star of the Copa Libatadores, scoring three times as Boca beat Gremio in the final.
