Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will have to dig deep into his £70million war chest if he wants to sign Dinamo Zagreb star Luka Modric.
Modric is expected to be one of the players that the Frenchman tries to sign when the transfer window re-opens after failing to land him during the summer.
The Croatian international is highly rated by Wenger and could leave Dinamo in January despite being under contract until 2015.
However, Wenger is going to face stiff competition for his services from Dutch giants Ajax, who are said to be willing to splash out £10million to get their man.
They are looking to replace Wesley Sneijder, who left in the summer for Real Madrid and see Modric as the ideal man for the job.
Meanwhile, German giants Bayern Munich, who missed out on the Champions League this season are also interested in the attacking midfielder.
