The tactical secrets of England head coach Steve McClaren have been on open display at Wembley since the European Championship qualifying game against Russia three weeks ago.
A wipeboard giving details of eight of McClaren's defensive and attacking set-piece preparations was still propped up in a treatment room just outside the home dressing room — without any attempt to scrub it clear.
The McClaren files, with their diagrams of the expected movement of John Terry and Co, were even pointed out to guests of FA sponsors Nationwide, who were being given a tour of the stadium before their match against a media team last weekend.
This ease of access to McClaren's innermost thoughts before a big match makes a mockery of the way England hold training sessions behind closed doors when the serious stuff, including all the set-piece rehearsals, is taking place.
A FA spokesperson said: "The tactical display should have been wiped clean and nine times out of 10 it would have been. We will make sure such a lapse doesn't occur again."
