Dida is no stranger to controversy having been hit by a flare during a quarter-final tie against Inter Milan in the San Siro three seasons ago.
Last night's referee at Parkhead, German Markus Merk, was also in charge on that occasion and the game was abandoned. UEFA awarded a 5-0 aggregate victory to AC Milan, who progressed to the semi-finals.
Inter were subsequently fined £132,000 by UEFA and forced to play their next four European games behind closed doors, including one against Rangers in the 2005/06 season.

Fan banned for life after incident
A 27-year-old man who slapped AC Milan goalkeeper Dida during Wednesday's Champions league match at Celtic has been given a life ban by the Scottish club after owning up and being handed over to the police.
A statement on Celtic's website on Thursday said the unnamed individual was in custody in Glasgow.
The incident at Celtic Park occurred just after Scott McDonald had scored a late goal to seal a 2-1 win for Celtic over the European champions in their Group D match.
Dida chased after the man then dramatically collapsed on the ground and was carried off on a stretcher after treatment.
Celtic face punishment from UEFA for the lapse of security at their stadium but Brazilian Dida could also be in trouble if he is judged to have simulated the extent of his injury.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said on its Web site: 'Clearly, Celtic take this issue extremely seriously and it is satisfying that this individual has been identified so swiftly.
'The individual in question has now been banned for life from attending Celtic matches, both home and away.
'Our fans have a tremendous record of positive support for the club at home and abroad, something which has been recognised by both UEFA and FIFA, and we are sure this will continue.'
The man disappeared into the crowd after the incident and Strathclyde Police had issued a statement earlier on Thursday appealing for him to turn himself in.
UEFA has a history of severely punishing this sort of offence but made no comment apart from its usual statement that it would wait for German referee Markus Merk's match report.
European soccer's governing body confirmed any case brought would be handled by its Control and Disciplinary Committee.
Milan said they would not appeal to have the match result annulled or replayed but UEFA can act on its own accord.
'We will not appeal. It is a decision that I have agreed with the president Silvio Berlusconi,' Milan vice president Adriano Galliani told Rai TV. 'It is a decision we have taken because we are European champions and must behave like that.'
Celtic's delight at one of the greatest triumphs in their recent European history could be cut short if they have to forfeit the points, replay the match, face a heavy financial penalty or be expelled from the competition.
Nevertheless, it was another miserable night for Milan and Dida could also face UEFA's ire if the disciplinary body rules that the Brazilian was simulating any injury.
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said of Dida: 'It does not seem serious. Perhaps he has exaggerated. However, a fan should not be able to get on the pitch.'
Whatever happens in UEFA's committee rooms, Milan cannot escape the fact that they endured a disappointing night in Glasgow to continue their stuttering start to the season.
'We are disappointed, I don't think we deserved to lose,' Ancelotti told reporters.
Stephen McManus put Celtic ahead after 62 minutes and Kaka equalised with a penalty six minutes later before McDonald's late winner.
After two games Shakhtar Donetsk lead the group with six points followed by Celtic and Milan on three. Benfica are bottom with no points. -

*SFA chief calls for Dida ban*
Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has called for Milan goalkeeper Dida to be banned for diving.
The Brazilian was involved in an altercation with a Celtic supporter who ran onto the pitch and appeared to tap Dida in the face in the final minute of Milan's 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at Celtic Park on Wednesday.
Dida briefly chased the Celtic fan before collapsing and leaving the field on a stretcher.
Smith, though, believes Dida made the most of the incident involving the fan - who has since been banned from Celtic for life - and wants the Milan star to receive the same punishment as Lithuania's Saulius Mikoliunas.
Guilty
The winger was banned for two games after being found guilty of diving in Lithuania's 3-1 Euro 2008 qualifying defeat to Scotland in September and Smith wants Uefa to use the same yardstick for Dida.
"I was at the match at Celtic Park but I did not see the fan come onto the pitch," Smith told the Daily Record.
"From what I've been told he made what could be described as a friendly pat at the goalkeeper, who then decided to fall over. To see him leave the park on a stretcher could be described as farcical.
"I would hope that Uefa act in accordance with their recent judgment on Mikoliunas. I would certainly hope the incident would have no effect on the outcome of the match."
Incident
Uefa are set to meet on Friday to decide if there is a need for an enquiry into the incident and Smith acknowledges that, until the European governing body pass judgement, the SFA is unable to become involved.
"The fact of the matter is that Celtic will have a case to answer because their security was breached by the supporter who came on the Park," added Smith.
"Therefore there is nothing we can do to help them at this stage.
"What Uefa have to decide is whether Dida was guilty of simulation and whether it was intended to make the problem with the fan look even worse by indicating that he had been assaulted." -
European football governing body UEFA said Friday it has opened an inquiry into incidents that took place during Wednesday's Champions League clash between Celtic and AC Milan in Glasgow.
Celtic, who won the game 2-1, have been accused by UEFA of a "lack of organisation and bad behaviour of their supporters."
UEFA's disciplinary commission will study the report from match referee Markus Merk and will meet on October 11 to decide what sanctions to impose on the Scots.
UEFA have also asked Milan to explain their substitution of Brazilian goalkeeper Nelson Dida.
The goalie was lightly slapped in the face by a supporter who invaded the pitch after Celtic's late winner.
Dida initially started to chase after his assailant before theatrically slumping to the ground and rolling over a couple of times while clutching his face.
He was later seen applying an icepack to his cheek and was stretchered from the field when he was substituted.
On Thursday the 27-year-old supporter who slapped Dida, but who escaped police at the ground, turned himself in to Celtic and subsequently police after he was hit with a life ban by the club and his picture was splashed on newspapers. -

As he crossed the goalmouth, McHendry stuck out his arm and made contact with the player.
The Brazilian goalkeeper briefly chased after the fan but then collapsed theatrically to the ground.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard today that McHendry handed himself in to police the morning after the incident, telling officers he rushed down the stand and on to the pitch as the winning goal was scored.
He claimed he had got "carried away" by the late goal.
The court heard that the single father told police: "I was running over to celebrate with the team. As I was running by I tapped the keeper of AC Milan on the shoulder.
"I said 'Unlucky, Dida' and continued running towards the team."
McHendry, of Cambuslang, near Glasgow, will be sentenced next month after reports. -

AC Milan & Dida face Uefa inquiry
Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against AC Milan and their Brazilian goalkeeper Dida after the Champions League game at Celtic.
Dida collapsed dramatically after being struck in the face by a fan near the end of Wednesday's 2-1 loss at Celtic.
The 34-year-old was stretchered off but has been criticised for overreacting.
He was eventually substituted in injury time, with Australian Zeljko Kalac coming on in his place.
A statement on the Uefa website said it had opened an investigation on the basis of article five, paragraph one of the disciplinary regulations, which state:
- Member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship.
Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has already admitted Dida's actions were a "mistake", but says the keeper should not be punished.
"During the years, Dida has shown great sportsmanship and fairness - he was also hit by flares and he got up," said Ancelotti.
