Eriksson sent his No.1 spy Tord Grip to watch Benzema in action for both Lyon and France - and is making enquiries about the £14millionrated starlet. Benzema, 20 in December, has burst into the national team this season and is also star ring in the Champions League - although Lyon may crash out before the next transfer window.
Eriksson has big money for a top striker and Benzema is on his wish list - ahead of his fellow countryman and Bolton star Nicolas Anelka, who is also priced in the same range.
City spies will watch Benzema again this week when he plays in Europe and they will decide where to pitch their offer shortly. But it will have to be close to Lyon's valuation.
The quick, strong and skilful young attacker has a fantastic set of stats already. He has bagged 16 goals in just 50 games for Lyon since making his debut at 16.
And in the elite Champions League competition he has also claimed two goals in just six appearances, so he can mix it with the best. -

ARSENE WENGER is targeting £40million Lyon duo Karim Benzema and Hatim Ben Arfa.
The Gunners boss had both aces watched in Lyon’s 3-1 win over Monaco at the weekend — Benzema found the net and Ben Arfa impressed.
Striker Benzema, 19, has taken the French league by storm with 11 goals in as many games.
He is already a starter for France, with his displays also alerting Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC and Inter Milan.
Left-winger Ben Arfa, 20, has also broken into the France senior team.
But it will be a huge task to convince Lyon to sell. The French champs are notorious for hiking up prices and they know Wenger has a £70m war chest. -

u can't blame lyon for making the french league boring, other teams have to look at themselves.....lyon hasn't played well early this season and other challenging teams like marseille, monaco, lille has played even worse.....only bordeaux is decent......Originally posted by iveco:If they do not sell, French league will become another great bore.
