Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Erikkson twice said ‘sorry’ for the humbling defeat at the hands of a rampant Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
A clearly ruffled Erikkson stated the obvious as he gave a damning verdict of his sideÂ’s defending this afternoon,
“Well we obviously forgot how to defend,
“If you give a team like Chelsea space and time like that, then that will happen”
Asked if he meant just the back-four, Sven responded that he laid the blame of poor defending on the whole of the team,
“Defensively, the whole 11 were bad,
“We can’t give no excuses – we have to do better”
And then came the hardest word,
“I am sorry – we are all sorry for that”
Before issuing another apology, specifically, to the City fans,
“If you lose 6-0 then nothing is going right, and I’m sorry for the travelling fans, a lot of them came here not wanting what happened”
The Swede also hinted that CityÂ’s recent good form had maybe gone to the heads of the players,
“Maybe with all the talk of how well we have been playing, that we forgot how to work hard and defend”
