Everton are ready to make an £8 million offer for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing.
David Moyes wants the England winger to add a new dimension to his team for the second half of the season.
Crucially, Downing will not be Cup tied with Everton hoping to push on in the UEFA Cup in the New Year.
Middlesbrough have fought off repeated offers from Spurs for the 22-year-old homegrown midfielder and also knocked back a summer approach from Moyes.
Downing has previously said that he will quit the Riverside one day to further his career.
But he hopes to move to a top four side when he finally does leave Middlesbrough and that could spell problems for Moyes.
