Manchester City have reportedly agreed a near-£14million deal to sign Brazil striker Afonso Alves from Eredivisie side Heerenveen.
Alves is contracted to Heerenveen until 2011 - but he has made little secret of the fact that he wants to play in one of Europe's top leagues.
And Dutch daily De Telegraaf claims Thaksin Shinawatra and Sven-Goran Eriksson flew to Holland on Wednesday to shake hands on a deal worth around 20million Euros (£13.85million).
Heerenveen bought Alves from Malmo as Klass-Jan Huntelaar's replacement in 2006 and he did not disappoint as he bagged 31 goals from 34 games.
He has added a further 10 from just four games this term, including a momentous seven-goal haul against Heracles.
