ROY KEANE will have a £15million transfer kitty to save Sunderland from the drop.
Portsmouth midfielder Matt Taylor and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans top KeaneÂ’s wish-list.
The Black Cats are two points above safety but Keane said: “My gut feeling is we’ll be okay. We’ve done all right, but the next step is the biggest one we have to take.
“I believe that at the end of the season we’ll have enough points to look back and say we’ve had a decent campaign. There’s still a hell of a lot of work to do but I believe the fans appreciate the progress we’re making.”
And Keane has been given a massive boost by the return to fitness of skipper Dean Whitehead.
The midfielder is in line for a recall at Everton next weekend.
He played 60 minutes for the reserves at Falkirk on Thursday night in his first run-out since rupturing his cruciate ligament in August.
Keane is desperate to get Whitehead back and will put him through his paces again on Tuesday.
If all goes well, Whitehead will be in the squad for the trip to Goodison Park alongside fit-again hitman Andy Cole who played for 70 minutes in Scotland.
Whitehead said: “There hasn’t been any reaction so far in the knee but I didn’t really expect there to be any.
“The knee is fine and feels good, I just need to work on my fitness now. It’s a big step for me.”
