Roman Abramovich is chasing £15million-rated Croat midfielder Luka Modric in a bid to make Chelsea more entertaining. Abramovich sent one of his senior scouts to Skopje last night to watch long-time Arsenal target Modric play for Croatia in their Euro 2008 qualifier against Macedonia.Modric, 22, plays for Dinamo Zagreb and is regarded as one of the most gifted European players. Chelsea believe he can achieve for them what Elano has done for Manchester City as Abramovich tries to shake off the 'boring Chelsea' tag gained under Jose Mourinho.
Arsene Wenger has monitored Modric for a year and sees him as a successor to Inter Milan target Tomas Rosicky. But Zagreb refused to sell him in the summer to quell a revolt from fans unhappy that Eduardo had joined Arsenal.
