*Rams nick Ince ahead of Jewell*
PAUL INCE will replace Billy Davies as Derby boss.Davies was shown the door yesterday after launching an amazing attack on chairman Adam Pearson on Saturday night.
Now the Rams want The GuvÂ’nor to keep the club in the Premier League.
MK Dons face a losing battle trying to hang on to Ince, who was also linked with Preston and Wigan.
A Dons spokesman last night insisted: “A manager of Paul’s profile inevitably attracts speculation.
“But we won’t allow it to compromise the excellent start Paul and the team have made this season.”
Backroom staff sackedPearson had also been looking at Paul Jewell, out of work since leaving Wigan in the summer.
Davies becomes the sixth Premier League manager to part with his club this season.
His backroom staff were all sacked too, leaving academy boss Kevin Thelwell in temporary charge.
Davies arrived at Pride Park in summer 2006 and led the Rams into the top flight via the play-offs in May.
He signed a new three-year contract in August and walks away with £750,000.
The axe fell after Davies demanded a £40million investment in the January transfer window and claimed he had not spoken to Pearson for three weeks.
Ex-Hull chairman Pearson said: “Billy leaves Derby with our best wishes and our genuine gratitude in achieving a magnificent promotion.”
Davies admitted: “We know what football’s all about. It’s time to move on to pastures new.”
Derby are four points adrift of safety and face a crucial trip to fellow strugglers Sunderland on Saturday.
They then travel to Manchester United before hosting another relegation cruncher against Middlesbrough.
Pearson is determined to have someone in by this weekend.
Ex-England star Ince caught his eye after guiding MK Dons to the top of League Two.
BurtonÂ’s Nigel Clough was also considered.
