Graeme Souness has expressed an interest in moving into international management. The former Newcastle boss has been strongly linked with the vacant Scotland job, while there has also been talk of him taking charge of Republic of Ireland. Terry Venables remains favourite to become the next Ireland coach, and Souness has hinted that he would be more attracted by Scotland. Asked by RTE television whether he would be interested in the Ireland job, Souness replied: "I would be interested in taking a national team position," before pointing out that the Scotland position was also vacant.
However, he refused to state a preference for either job. "I've not been offered either of them, so I can't comment."
Alex McLeish resigned from his role with Scotland on Tuesday and Scotland are looking to make a quick appointment ahead of their World Cup qualification campaign.
Souness is not the only Scot to have been connected with the job, with Gary McAllister and Billy Davies also believed to be in the running.
