Chelsea will sell Andriy Shevchenko next month.
His exit will leave the Blues with an £18million loss in just 18 months.
Boss Avram Grant is willing to let Roman Abramovich's favourite player quit Stamford Bridge for a mere £12m.
The club signed him for £30m in May 2006. Shevchenko looks sure to return to Italy, most likely with Inter Milan. Juventus are also monitoring the situation.
Grant has made it clear the Ukrainian star will never be first choice under him and Abramovich has now given his permission for the striker to be sold once the transfer window opens. Ironically, it was Jose Mourinho's refusal to guarantee Shev a starting place which sealed the ex-manager's fate.
But Abramovich has been forced to admit the player has become a very expensive spare part in the squad.
Shevchenko would take a pay cut on his £140,000-a-week wages to help secure a move back to Serie A.
