Chelsea appeal Cole red

Ashley Cole has appealed against the red card he received in Chelsea's Boxing Day draw with Aston Villa.
An exhilarating game in the capital ended in a 4-4 stalemate that saw three players sent-off, with Villa's Zat Knight and now Cole having lodged appeals.
The England defender was dismissed in stoppage time by referee Phil Dowd after it was adjudged he had handled Gabriel Agbonlahor's header on the line.
Gareth Barry scored the resulting penalty but like Knight, Cole has appealed for leniency from the Football Association.
An FA regulatory commission will consider both appeals on Friday. -
*Villa appeal Knight red-card*
Aston Villa have decided to appeal against the red-card picked up by Zat Knight against Chelsea on Boxing Day.
Knight was dismissed for a challenge on Michael Ballack just before the break with Villa leading 2-0.
Andrei Shevchenko dispatched the resulting spot-kick and the game went on to finish 4-4, with Ricardo Carvalho and Ashley Cole also seeing red for Chelsea.
Martin O'Neil was incensed by the decision after watching the incident back and has made the decision to lodge an appeal against the defender's resulting suspension.
Knight would only have to serve a one-match ban for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity, but the Villa manager is determined to have the decision overturned.
The case will be heard on 28th December. -

MICHAEL BALLACK has told Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill: Don't call me a diver. O'Neill accused Ballack of taking a tumble to win a penalty during Villa's 4-4 draw at Chelsea yesterday. But the German midfielder insists Zat Knight deserved to be red-carded for the challenge which sent him crashing.
Ballack fumed: "For me there is no discussion about this. "I had the ball and two guys, not just one, came and one pushed me. "It was a clear penalty."
Ballack was inspirational as Chelsea fought back from two goals down at Stamford Bridge. Andriy Shevchenko converted the spot-kick won by his team-mate on the stroke of half-time before smashing home the equaliser early in the second half.
Brazilian defender Alex put Avram Grant's men in front and Ballack restored the lead late on with a curling free-kick after Martin Laursen's equaliser. But his efforts were in vain as Ashley Cole followed Ricardo Carvalho for an early bath after handling the ball on the line. Gareth Barry converted from the spot to send Villa home with a share of the spoils. -

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole and Aston Villa defender Zat Knight have had their appeals against red card's earned during their clash on Boxing Day rejected by the Football Association.
Cole will now miss the Blues' match against Newcastle.
Knight will miss SaturdayÂ’s trip to face Wigan.
