Sven looks to snap up £16m-rated Roma winger Mancini
Sven Goran Eriksson has returned to Serie A with a £16million bid for Roma winger Alessandro Mancini. And unsettled striker Rolando Bianchi, bought last summer for £8.8m from Reggina, could also be included in the deal.
Eriksson, former boss of Sampdoria and Lazio, has been promised money to spend at Manchester City in the January market to keep up their challenge for a Champions League place.
Roma rejected interest from Liverpool and Lyon last summer in the 27-year-old Brazilian international. But he has failed to recapture his stunning form of last season, when he scored a wonder goal against the French side in the Champions League and has not renewed a deal which expires in 2009. -

MARSEILLE have rejected Manchester City's bid for Djibril Cisse.
The ex-Liverpool striker has struggled to hold down a regular place in the French club's starting XI this season.
And City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is keen to tempt Cisse to Eastlands to add firepower to his frontline.
But Marseille president Pape Diouf insists the French ace is going nowhere.
Diouf said: "He is wanted, that is for sure.
"I have been approached by Manchester City about Cisse but I turned it down categorically.
"I want to be clear — Djibril Cisse will not leave. He will stay here until the end of the season.
"I have always wanted to rediscover the Djibril we signed, the efficient Djibril.
"I have never doubted his abilities, his qualities. He got through difficulties last year and I have no doubt that he will get out of them again this season.
"With everything that he has had to endure, read, see and hear, I understand that it piles the pressure on him to leave, having been contacted by an English club that is among the leading teams in their league.
"But when he and myself discussed this, he understood my position.
"He understood that I will not let him leave and he has no problem with me." -
Eriksson: Mancini will be my Cristiano Ronaldo
Sven-Goran Eriksson is determined to bring Roma winger Mancini to Manchester City, according to reports in the Italian press.
The Brazilian is contracted to the Serie A club until 2009 but is not expected to sign a new deal with Luciano Spalletti's side.
And Eriksson is clearly a fan, seeing him as a player capable of rivalling Cristiano Ronaldo of city rivals Manchester United.
'I want Mancini here immediately as he is the ideal man to strengthen my squad,' Eriksson told Il Romanista.
'He could become my Cristiano Ronaldo.
'Money isn't a problem for us, but it depends on whether Roma want to sell him.
'I know that contract talks have hit a brick wall, but we will have to talk to his agent Gilmar Veloz.'
City have so far signed Mexico international Nery Castillo on loan from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk and have had a bid rejected by Marseille for France striker Djibril Cisse. -
