EVERTON have slapped a £4million price tag on James McFadden in a bid to block Birmingham.
Brum boss Alex McLeish has had a £2.5m offer KO’d and is keen to team up with the striker, 24, who played for him when he was Scotland gaffer.
McFadden has eight goals so far this season and Everton chief David Moyes is reluctant to sell, despite the hitman not being a regular starter.

Fernandes set to rejoin Everton
Manuel Fernandes will undergo a medical with Everton on Thursday with a view to rejoining the club on loan. The 21-year-old midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park from Benfica, but left to join Spanish side Valencia in August.
Fernandes made 11 appearances for Everton last season and had been expected to make the move permanent. -
Aston Villa are reportedly lining-up bids for Spurs right-back Pascal Chimbonda and Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra. The Birmingham Mail reports that Martin O'Neill is interested in Chimbonda after being told he had no chance of signing Arsenal's Justin Hoyte.
Chimbonda is reportedly unsettled at Spurs after the signing of youngster Chris Gunter from Cardiff, and Juande Ramos's apparent interest in Rangers full-back Alan Hutton.
Chimbonda said: "I think if this happened to any other player they would be disappointed and would even consider handing in a transfer request, but I don't want to cause trouble. "It looks like the club are looking to replace me and we will see what happens."
Diarra has been left out of the Gunners squad for Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Spurs amid speculation that he will be sold. Newcastle are thought to have already made enquiries about the Frenchman, who has rarely featured since signing from Chelski at the end of the summer transfer window. -

READING boss Steve Coppell has told Sunderland they still have no chance of signing Stephen Hunt.
The Black Cats had bids of £2.5m and £3m rejected for the winger but tried again with a £4.5m offer.
But Coppell said: “It doesn’t matter. They can come calling every day. There’s no positive response from us.
“They made a bid but we would like our core players to stay.”
Hunt, 26, netted twice in the 2-2 FA Cup draw with Spurs on Saturday which prompted Sunderland boss Roy Keane to make an improved offer.
LIVERPOOL star Momo Sissoko says he is being forced to leave because Rafa Benitez will not talk to him.
The Mali midfielder wants to quit Anfield this month for Juventus but admits he is in limbo after falling out of favour with the Spanish gaffer.

Everton have completed the signing of Plymouth's teenage midfielder Dan Gosling in a deal which could be worth a record fee of £2m for the Championship side. The 17-year-old Gosling has made just 24 senior appearances for Plymouth but has done enough to convince Everton manager David Moyes he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League. -

The striker, 20, scored the winner in last yearÂ’s Under-20 World Cup final against the Czechs.

McLeish lands £5.5m McFadden
Birmingham City's manager, Alex McLeish, has finally agreed a £5.5m fee with Everton for the Scotland forward James McFadden, who is expected at St Andrew's today to discuss personal terms.
McLeish, who was impressed with McFadden during his time as Scotland's manager, is convinced the 24-year-old former Motherwell man can help save City's season and had previously unsuccessfully offered £2.5m and £3m.
Birmingham will also sign the Hibernian full-back David Murphy for £1.5m, subject to him passing a medical today. The 23-year-old has agreed personal terms in a 3½-year deal.
