GARY CAHILL is at the centre of a three-way transfer tug-of-war.
The Aston Villa defender, 22, spoke to Bolton yesterday — and plans talks with Birmingham today.
But Sunderland boss Roy Keane has also matched his rivals’ £4.5million offer for Cahill.
Villa want Cahill, 22, to make a quick decision as boss Martin O’Neill needs cash to bolster his own squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

NEWCASTLE are battling with Birmingham to sign Brazilian defender Alvaro.
The 28-year-old, who holds a Spanish passport, was originally targeted by Alex McLeish but now has his heart set on a switch to St James’ Park.
Toon boss Kevin Keegan will offer £1.5million to Alvaro’s club, La Liga strugglers Levante, who are desperate for cash.
Alvaro said: “It’s incredible — on the same day two English clubs are fighting over me.
“Levante have the final say but going to Newcastle is perfect. To play in the Premier League will be sensational.”
GARY MEGSON admits his hopes of landing ex-Bolton star Eidur Gudjohnsen are fading.

Defoe joy at £7m Pompey move
Defoe.. teaming up with Redknapp again
JERMAIN DEFOE completed a deadline-busting £7million move to Portsmouth last night — to end a nightmare day on a high note.
The striker was gutted to be left out of Fabio Capello’s England squad then learned Spurs had agreed to sell him.
Defoe, who failed to hold down a first-team place at Spurs, said: “I can’t wait to play for Portsmouth. I just want to get my boots on.
“I fully understand why I was left out by England. You can’t expect to get picked if you’re not playing regularly.
“Hopefully I can play football here. I just want to score goals.”
Redknapp, who paid Charlton £1.6m to sign Defoe for West Ham in 1999, said: “He’s a boy I know well and he will be a great signing for us.
“He wants to play and he needs to play.”
The deal was only confirmed at 12.55am.
Benjani's £9m move to Manchester City was not completed but that deal may be ressurrected today as the Premier League investigates paperwork.
City boss Sven Goran Eriksson did at least seal a £5m deal with Swiss side Basel for Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo, 19.
His agent Saif Rubie explained: “He’s agreed a 4½-year deal.
"He’s over the moon and can’t wait to get over here.
"It’s taken the best part of two months to come together.”
And on a busy day at Eastlands Eriksson completed a loan deal for Inter Milan starlet Filippo Mancini, 17, the son of the Italian giants’ coach Roberto Mancini.

Mascherano.. permanent move for £17m
RAFA BENITEZ has won his long-running battle with Liverpool’s owners to splash £17million and make Javier Mascherano’s Anfield deal permanent.
But the 23-year-old Argentine midfielder will stay on loan until the switch is finally completed in June.
The Kop’s American supremos Tom Hicks and George Gillett gave the go-ahead after completing their refinancing package last week.
Mascherano has agreed to a four-year contract.

The January transfer window slams shut with no word on the Benjani to Man City/Jermain Defoe to Portsmouth deal. The latest news we have is that Defoe has agreed terms at Pompey and will join if Benjani completes his move north. The Zimbabwean striker arrived at City's training ground just after 11 o'clock for a medical but it is unclear if he has passed it and if the deal has been cleared by the Premier League.

At last, Middlesbrough seal a huge transfer coup as Afonso Alves completes his £13million move to the north east. The Brazil striker has arrived from Dutch club Heerenveen and penned a four-and-a-half year deal. Boro boss Gareth Southgate said: "I'm delighted to have completed the deal. As usual at this time of the year, it was a late night but Afonso brings us something different in that he is a goalscorer who does much of his best work inside the box. His goalscoring record has been prolific and we hope he will reproduce that sort of form for us in the Premier League."

City nab Benjani for 1/2-price
Benjani.. signed for just £4.8m
MANCHESTER CITY have landed Benjani for nearly half the £8million fee they agreed last week.
They bagged him for just £4.8million three days after the transfer window shut.
City officials told Pompey top brass of their new offer last night — insisting the South Coast club could take it or leave it.
Pompey had to agree as they have a financial commitment to buy Jermain Defoe from Tottenham for £8m.
Eastlands bigwigs were allowed to complete the deal yesterday as the move had been put in motion ahead of last Thursday’s midnight transfer deadline.
They have also given the player a 2½-year deal, rather than the original four-year offer.
City halted the deal after the 29-year-old striker had arrived in Manchester just an hour before the window closed.
Eastlands chiefs were unhappy with some of the paperwork and the fact the medical had been rushed.
Yesterday they gave the striker, who has 12 league goals this season, a full day of tests — which he passed.
They also solved the paperwork problems.
Pompey could not begin talks over Benjani with any other club as the deadline was gone.

Mascherano to nail Kop future

JAVIER MASCHERANO wants to tie up his Liverpool future this week.
The Argentina star is hopeful of sealing a £17million move after months of negotiations.
Mascherano is registered on a long-term loan from owners MSI, so any deal did not need to be completed before last Thursday's transfer deadline.
But the ex-West Ham midfielder is desperate to finally commit to the Reds.
Mascherano said: "It's not finished yet but I am hoping to stay here.
"I have a lot of confidence that after the next week I will be able to say 'everything is right and I am staying here in Liverpool.'
"We now need to wait. We are very close but we need to talk again next week.
"I think everything will be OK. I've waited a long time, so I can wait one week more.
"The fans like me and I love the fans. They are great and that's the reason I want to stay here."
