Bolton Wanderers have agreed a deal for AZ Alkmaar's Gretar Steinsson, skysports.com understands.
The right-back, who can cover anywhere across the back four, is set to become Bolton's first signing since the departure of Nicolas Anelka.
Bolton have £15million from the Anelka deal and are ready to use it to bolster their squad in all areas.
Steinsson only signed a new long-term contract at AZ last summer, which at the time was to fend off interest from Middlesbrough.
Now after seeing a move to Teesside fail to materialise, Bolton look to have agreed terms with AZ and the 26-year-old could sign within the next 48 hours.
Bolton legend Gudni Bergsson - who still has close contacts with the club, is believed to have recommended the deal to both the player and his former employers.
