Arsenal skipper William Gallas could be hit with a three-match ban to add to the Gunners' woes.
Referee Alan Wiley appeared to miss Gallas kicking Manchester United's Nani and Sir Alex Ferguson wants the FA to take action.
Soho Square say they will investigate the incident if Wiley confirms to them that he did not see it during United's 4-0 win at Old Trafford.
An FA spokesman said: "We need to clarify whether or not the referee saw the alleged incident as a first step.
"Sometimes the referee will say he was made aware after the game of something he did not see at the time.
"If the referee did not see it then we would like to get video footage of the alleged incident and review it."
Ferguson hopes the FA will ban Gallas, claiming it was a red-card offence.
"I thought Gallas should have been sent off," he said. "The referee must have a look at that again. He kicked Nani from behind and the referee called both over because they sized up to each other."

Wenger: Selective vision problem again.
Arsene Wenger claimed he did not see Gallas' kick and instead taunted United by saying their poor pitch could cost them the title.
"It was a disgrace and completely unbelievable," said the Gunners boss. "Players worth £25million cannot make a pass on that without the ball bouncing over the pitch.
"I believe the pitch is a handicap for them because their team plays at a good technical level. But the quality of the pitch negates that advantage over other sides.
"I just think I've been coming here for 10 or 11 years and I've not seen the pitch in that shape."
Arsenal captain William Gallas has escaped disciplinary action over his clash with Manchester United's Nani on Saturday.
The Football Association confirmed that Wiley had looked at video footage of the incident.
An FA spokesman said: "Having viewed the footage, the referee was not satisfied that it showed evidence of violent conduct and therefore no further action will be taken."
For the FA to take action, Wiley would have had to have deemed the clash worthy of a red card for violent conduct.

Dear old Wenger...
yep, it takes a gun or baseball before the FA will call violent conduct.. a kick in the back to a youngster from an established star is just nothing..
Yeah, Ban Rooney the new diver too! Might as well add Nanny to the list.

Gee, wasn't Cantona your favourite player? Even though you were using a different nick when you posted.
I think it's ridiculous to ask for further action to be taken against Gallas, there was not real intent to hurt him but just to put him off his stride or something like that.
Hmm its not over....
The FA are investigating referee Alan Wiley's refusal to punish Arsenal captain William Gallas for kicking out at Nani during Manchester United's FA Cup-tie against Arsenal at Old Trafford last month.
Gallas appeared to kick the back of Nani's legs after becoming aggravated by the young Portuguese star juggling the ball beyond the reach of Arsenal's defenders.
Wiley did not book Gallas on the day and FA officials are baffled that he has not since issued a retrospective red card.
