Stoke's hopes of having Andy Griffin's red card rescinded have improved after Andy D'Urso admitted he was wrong to dismiss the defender at QPR.
Griffin was controversially sent off for a challenge on Hogan Ephraim in the Potters' 3-0 defeat at Loftus Road on Sunday but replays showed the full-back won the ball and made no contact whatsoever with the player.
D'Urso has since had the chance to take a second look at the challenge and the Football Association have now confirmed Stoke that the referee no longer believes it to have been a red card offence.
Football Administrator Eddie Harrison told the club's official website: "The FA have confirmed to Stoke City that the referee has re-considered the matter after watching the incident again.
"His views will be submitted to the regulatory commission tomorrow along with the submission from the club.
"While it doesn't automatically mean his suspension will be uplifted, but the fact that he has now indicated that the matter was only worthy of a caution stands us in good stead."
