FRANK LAMPARD’S future was plunged into doubt last night as Chelsea secretly lined up Brazilian ace Diego.
The Werder Bremen midfielder, 23, will cost around £25million. A club insider said: “Frank’s one of our most loyal players yet, unbelievably, there is still no sign of a new contract, even though we all know he can go on a Bosman soon as he has one year left on his present deal.
“Now there’s a real fear the club are ready to lose him and bring in a Brazilian who has no experience of the English game.” Diego was watched by scouts from all over Europe at Ibrox last week where Bremen lost 2-0 to Rangers in the UEFA Cup.
Last season’s Bundesliga Player of the Year scored Brazil’s injury-time equaliser in the friendly against England at Wembley nine months ago. He is under contract to 2011 but Bremen — second in the German league — will find it difficult to refuse a big-money offer.
Our insider added: “There is a lot of talk going on around the club about Diego. “There is loads of interest across Europe but Chelsea are the most likely to come up with the money.” If Chelsea shell out on Diego they would have to get most of the cash back in sales. Chief executive Peter Kenyon is committed to reducing the club’s transfer outlay.
Good move. To win the league, you have to make big and drastic changes. (get rid of older players)
Take for eg. chelsea throw away gianfranco zola and goes on to win the league with the help of lots of money as well. Then man united also throw away ruud van nistelrooy and roy keane and suddenly, diving ronaldo and rooney begin to step up. Then for arsenal, throw away henry and others like fabregas, adebayor begin to assume bigger tasks.
Its high time that Chelsea replace some of their ageing players...
lampa scored for them a hat trick. Not thankful.![]()
Lampard: Don't mess with me
FRANK LAMPARD has given Chelsea a contract ultimatum and told them: ‘Sort my future out NOW!’
The England midfielder finally ran out of patience following a series of broken promises by the club over a new deal.
He revealed: “I’ve been approached by the club a few times saying they are going to come to me with an offer but they haven’t followed it up.
“If we get to the summer and still nothing happens, I’ll be down to the last year of my contract. And that is not a position I want to be in.
“It has dragged on all season and that’s not an ideal thing for me.
“I have made it very clear that I want to know what is going on.”
Lamps’ Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba has been urged to join Roma by Francesco Totti.
Hitman Drogba is almost certain to quit Chelsea this summer.
And Italian strike star Totti said: “I’d go to London myself to sign him. It would be fantastic if we could sign players of that calibre.”
