The Bianconeri have been playing at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin since 2006, a venue which was known as the communale, Juve’s old ground and then training ground when they moved to the Delle Alpi in 1990. The Olimpico was then reconstructed for the winter Olympics in the city two years ago.
The board of directors have now approved the new project which will see the old and disliked Delle Alpi replaced with a more modern 40,000 capacity football arena. The stadium will be surrounded with restaurants, shops and a cinema as well as a series of attractions which will guarantee the club extra income. It’s an ambitious project which will cost around €105 million and it seems the stadium will be ready for the 2011/12 season.
A statement by the club reads: “The board has given Jean Claude Blanc approval to carry out and oversee that the project gets underway. “The new stadium should be ready for the 2011/12 season.”
No doubt Juve fans will be delighted with the news. The old Delle Alpi hardly attracted any fans and it was notorious for always being empty because of the distance between the stands and the pitch. Hopefully Juve will be able to attract the fans with their new state of the art complex.
