Saw the Straits Times newspaper today and it says starting from next year, the UEFA Champions League will no longer be shown on Starhub's Espn and Star Sports channels anymore... Instead anyone wanting to catch it will have to subscribe to Singtel's mio Pay TV...
Oh my... what is it coming to... Now we have to pay anything from $15 to another $40 bucks just to watch what we already have... On top of another $100+ for the installation and phone modem...
So now that Starhub is no longer going to show the UEFA Champions League from next year, can we expect a reduction to our subscription from the $26 bucks we are currently paying?
I think someone higher is trying to squeeze us football fans for more money... and Starhub and Singtel are only being used as an excuse...
The government should step in and put a stop to all these exclusive thing going on... Let both provider screen them concurrently, the EPL and the CL and see who is able to capture the subscribers dollar with their own creative ideas... I belief if it was done this way, we the subscribers will be the beneficiaries at the end. But too bad, it seems like its these very people who are the ones that want to squeeze us... ![]()

Yeah i intend to do that for the CL already... So sick to hear this so called "war" going on between Singtel and Starhub... In the end, we the innocent ones kena play their stupid games...
On a side note... Just curious why never hear them mention how much Singtel paid for the rights to the CL?
And why Starhub or Espn didn't bid or what?

Haven't read the papers yet ... you think it's a subterfuge ?
After reading your post I have that feeling the sole bidder for the rights is only stinktell

No lah, But i think Starhub will soon come out and say... Got, we bid but they were willing to pay more than us... same kind of stuff...
bitches. we all know stinktell and skunkharb are under who.
another step to make sin city for the richs.
its the government who made it happen, in no way would starhub has given up the rights to ucl so easily, and singtel's mio tv was dying.
its a conspiracy to earn more money for themselves.
Meanwhile, StarHub said it did not bid for the broadcast rights for the Champions league for the 2009 season onwards.

It's becoming clear it's a conspiracy since Starfug did not bid for the broadcasting rights of UCL
its definitely a conspiracy, so singtel can win the rights to UCL without paying a heavy sum as it should when there's competition for it.
time to change government

think thats what im' gonna do.
Kuku jiao la...
Starhub didn't even bother to bid for it... They don't even want the broadcast rights for the Champions league... That is shocking!
Looks like singtel just went and paid the lowest fee for it... and now want to force us to pay for their mio Tv as well...
dont subscribe and they will learn a lesson.
Yeah, good advise... But I think they didn't even paid much for it considering that no one else bid for it... It was like place on a plate for them...
tamade.. ninabeiz.. bloody bloodsuckers.. bitch..
SingTel wins exclusive rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup

SINGAPORE: Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) has won exclusive rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup 2009-2012 on its mobile, internet and mio TV platforms.
SingTel also plans to stream UEFA Champions League games both ‘live’ and on-demand on mio TV, and the Internet through the IDEAS portal www.ideas.singtel.com. It will also offer clips on its mobile service.Local football fans usually have to stay up till the wee hours of the morning just to catch the games, due to the time difference as the UEFA games are played in Europe. But this won’t be the case now with mio TV’s on-demand feature.
Mr Allen Lew, SingTel’s CEO Singapore, said: "The flexible mio platform has the unique capability of offering video-on-demand and SingTel’s extensive mobile and broadband customer base allows us to package this content in an innovative way that will certainly excite the public in Singapore."
Mr Lew continued: "Based on our research, sport is a key genre that drives pay TV take-up, and European soccer is a significant driver for people who subscribe to sport content. mio TV is an integral part of the services that SingTel provides, and what drives pay TV take-up is the quality of content."
The UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup are premier European club competitions and this content is popular among locals and expatriates as they feature top soccer clubs from the UK, Italy and other major European nations.
Meanwhile, UEFA has said that they are excited at the prospect of working with their new partner, SingTel.
"The commitment they have made to acquire the media rights is evidence of the tremendous popularity of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup in Singapore," UEFA said.
Meanwhile, StarHub said it did not bid for the broadcast rights for the Champions league for the 2009 season onwards.
But fans can still catch the action on two cable channels, ESPN and STAR Sports, which will continue to broadcast the Champions League till May 2009.
And there'll still be other world class football matches on these two channels.
These include the FA Cup, England international home matches, and the Asian Football Confederation Package.
That package includes AFF Championships, Asian World Cup Qualifiers and Asian Champions League. - CNA/vm
Since Stinktell will own the exclusive rights to broadcast , will it be illegal to view live matches online in the future ?
But currently there are people also watching the EPL and CL already online when Starhub has the exclusive rights... Won't be much difference i guess...
saw it on new paper
wtf?
